The risk of losing your footing is always greater on a stairway because these areas involve elevated heights. The fact that most step surfaces are made from traction-less materials like hardwood and stone complicates matters even further. Stair coverings made from rubber will greatly improve the safety of your steps because rubber is a non-slip material. The surface texture on the safety treads for stairs, consisting of raised protrusions, are laid out in a pattern that is designed to increase the levels of grip and traction that are necessary for feet in motion. By having these anti-slip steps in place, you will be taking a proactive measure to reduce the chances of harmful slip-and-fall accidents occurring.
Indoor/Outdoor Stair Treads: These rubber stair coverings are ideal for use in both the indoors and the outdoors. This is possible thanks to the recycled rubber raw material used to make each step mat. Recycled rubber is made primarily from vehicle tires. Tires are designed to be extremely durable against physical abrasions, but also a variety of weather conditions. Vehicle tires have EPDM rubber in their composition that allows them to be used in the outdoors for prolonged periods of time. These safety treads for stairs contain trace amounts of EPDM material from the tires. As a result, the “Diamond-Plate” stair treads can be exposed to outdoor elements involving intense sunlight (UV rays) and rain or snow (moisture).
Temporary or Permanent Installations: Some areas require temporary installations where the step mats can be moved as required by circumstance. At other times, there is a need for permanent stair coverings that stay on the area for good. These indoor/outdoor stair treads are ideal for both. For temporary applications, double-sided tape is sufficient for the task. The tape can adhere the anti-slip steps onto any surface, whether it is wood, tile, stone, or metal. Permanent installations require the use of a polyurethane-based glue. The adhesive glue is meant for use on either wood or metal step surfaces.
